IRIDAS applications are built on significant technological innovations. Many of the fundamental technologies are invisible, such as our proprietary IrOS cross platform toolkit, that allows us to have products on all three major operating systems, Mac OS X, Windows and LINUX.
Other technologies are more visible, such as our ILAP (Intelligent Look Ahead Predictor) which constantly pre-loads frames in the background, to ensure smooth playback and instant scrubbing.
Here's an overview of technologies that provide significant workflow possiblities.
DualStream is IRIDAS' stereo playback and processing technology. A standard feature of FrameCycler and SpeedGrade, DualStream plays stereoscopic content coming from a variety of sources instantly and effortlessly. In SpeedGrade, DualStream allows for intuitive grading on either both eyes or individual eyes at the touch of a button, without having to copy grading setups between two time lines. Stereoscopic repositioning allows for interocular correction and fixing alignment issues.
DualStream supports all common stereo display technologies on the market, including dual HD SDI, dual DVI, shutter glasses, anaglyph, vertical/horizontal line interlaced displays and the TI pattern mode.
RealTime RAW was first introduced in 2006. The first version provided real time Bayer interpolation of RAW files for instant full-color preview. Usually RAW files require lengthy conversions to interpolate the color information from the original sensor data. With RealTime RAW, this processing is done in the graphics card, taking advantage of the massively parallel architecture of the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU).
In 2007, we introduced RealTime RAW 2.0 which now provides real time output up to 4K in render quality. RealTime RAW 2.0 is currently the only technology on the market with this capability.
With RealTime RAW 3.0, introduced in 2009, render quality processing up to 4K in real time is possible.
ReviewLink is a standard feature on all FrameCycler and SpeedGrade applications, except SpeedGrade OnSet. ReviewLink allows two or more workstations to be linked together over a network connection to enable interactive review sessions. Users can playback in sync, annotate and even edit and color correct in a ReviewLink session. All changes are synced with the other users in the session - whether they are across town, or on a different continent.
IRIDAS products are built around a core set of innovative technologies that aim to move workflows forward and into new directions.
IRIDAS was the first company to introduce non-destructive GPU-based color grading in 2003. For the first time, realtime 2K color processing was possible on a regular PC workstation. The introduction of the .Look file format for transporting the intent of a cinematographer all through postproduction in 2004 was another industry first.
In 2006, IRIDAS introduced RealTime RAW. Traditionally processing RAW files was a computationally intensive process that took several seconds per frame for high quality results. RealTime RAW made instant review of RAW files a reality.
DualStream, our stereoscopic workflow, has its roots in the first stereoscopic FrameCycler venue presentations in 2002. The functionality has grown organically and now offers a mature toolset for work on 3D movies.
