IRIDAS DualStream Goes Mainstream at Threshold and
3ality
Stereoscopic Playback for Review and Color Grading
in Postproduction
Munich: August 16, 2007 ... IRIDAS, who introduced the
first software solution for uncompressed stereoscopic
playback in 2002, is seeing increasing use of its DualStream
technology for HD, 2K, and higher resolution playback in
postproduction facilities such as Threshold Digital Research
Labs and 3ality Digital Systems. Originally only available
with special stereoscopic versions of FrameCycler,
DualStream is now an optional add-on module for all current
versions of FrameCycler as well as SpeedGrade HD and DI.

FrameCycler with DualStream
provides uncompressed playback of stereoscopic content and
supports most 3D display technologies. It has been used
extensively in areas as diverse as public presentations,
scientific research, and, of course, postproduction. "The
stereo versions FrameCycler helped us a lot," said George
Johnsen, CTO at Threshold Digital Research Laboratories who
have been using IRIDAS' DualStream technology since 2003.
"One of the most difficult things about making 3D in film is
the faith you have to have when the images go into the
camera," explained Johnsen. "When working 3D in digital,
either live action or animated, that guesswork and
dependence is taken away by being able to see the images in
real-time. Uncompressed stereo is the only way to work
quickly and cost-effectively. That is why FrameCycler has
been so important for us." (read the complete interview with

SpeedGrade DI with DualStream plays two stereo channels in
virtually any industry file format and offers real-time
grading, masks, pan-and-scan, .Look and LUT support, and
more. Colorists can grade each "eye" (channel) individually
as well as applying overall grades to both. "With SpeedGrade
DI and DualStream I can finally work with all of the
components of a stereo movie in the same workspace," said
Price Pethel, director of postproduction at 3ality in
Burbank, California. "Color grading all of the stereo
elements and being able to see content in real-time the way
the audience will see it is crucial. With this technology, I
can now do all of my film finishing in stereo."
IRIDAS' DualStream stereoscopic module is available for all
2007 versions of FrameCycler as well as SpeedGrade HD and
SpeedGrade DI. Current owners of these applications can
upgrade to DualStream at any time. For more information

About IRIDAS
IRIDAS pioneered desktop film-resolution playback in 2001.
Its FrameCycler products are now the industry standard for
frame-based image review. In 2003 IRIDAS introduced the
first non-destructive color correction application. Today
SpeedGrade and FrameCycler provide the critical links in an
end-to-end pipeline for uncompressed content and color
metadata. IRIDAS' applications are used by filmmakers around
the world and most major animation and postproduction
houses. IRIDAS is an independent, privately held company
headquartered in Munich, Germany. For more information,
