IRIDAS Brings SpeedGrade to New York
See the Color Pipeline at the SMPTE Exhibition

MUNICH: November 9, 2005 … IRIDAS, the leader in
non-destructive color grading technologies for the film
industry, is exhibiting SpeedGrade DI, FrameCycler, and the
new professional edition of SpeedGrade OnSet, at the SMPTE
Exhibition in New York City, November 9 - 12. |

With these applications, IRIDAS has created the industry's
first complete color pipeline, providing production and
postproduction artists with a simple and direct means of
communicating color data across the entire filmmaking process.
IRIDAS' .look file format allows cinematographers using
SpeedGrade OnSet to develop film looks which can shared with the
colorist, director, and others. With SpeedGrade DI, colorists
can access all of the settings used to create the look and send
new .look files back to the cinematographer allowing for a
collaborative pre-grading process. Look files can also be loaded
in FrameCycler and applied to sequences for color graded
playback, whether as digital dailies during production, or on
individual artist workstations during postproduction.
Each .look file includes a full 3D LUT so that it can be applied
in other applications, such as compositing packages. Both
SpeedGrade and FrameCycler use the advanced pixel shader
technologies of NVIDIA Quadro FX graphics by PNY to apply color
grading and calibration non-destructively in real-time.
"The key strength of SpeedGrade has always been its ability to
work with metadata," said producer Mark Read, co-creator of the
Hypercube Universal Production Environment. "SpeedGrade now has
a really user-friendly toolset that makes it easy for color
corrections and general DI information to be carried from the
shoot, through post, to the finishing process."
"On top of this core evolution, there are also a lot of new
features that we are taking advantage of," added Read, who is
currently working on an IMAX feature film with director Doug
Trumbull. "With the mask tool's edge blending, for example, you
can easily create a library of customized lens correctors and I
love the feature where you simply drop an EDL onto a look and it
appears on the timeline with individual grading clips for each
shot, including dissolves."
SpeedGrade OnSet, SpeedGrade DI, and FrameCycler DDS will be
demonstrated at the PNY exhibit, booth 282 and 283 in Hall II at
the New York Hilton, November 9 - 12 in New York City. For more
